Due to the fact I work alone you may have to leave a message: which I will return as soon as possible.  Once we've had a chance to discuss your pet’s needs: we can arrange an appointment.  My hours are generally quite flexible: daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available.  Mondays are my in-clinic services days: patients requiring: X-rays, dentistry, surgery and other procedures that require a hospital setting are performed by myself at Terra Losa Animal Clinic (pick up and drop off services may be available through pre-arrangement with myself).

~

Monday housecalls are available in the evening only.

~

From time to time I get called into hospital to perform emergency surgery: please be aware that morning appointments may have to be rescheduled at the last minute from time to time.

~

For existing clients I offer services such as prescription and food delivery (some restrictions apply).  Be sure to place orders at least two days in advance to avoid running out of your pet’s food or medicines.

~

Kennel rates are available for large groups of animals housed in one place.

People often elect housecall services for pets that are difficult to transport or get stressed outside of the home.  Some people have difficulty getting to the vet due to mobility or work reasons.  Whatever the reason is I try to accommodate each individual client and pet the best I can.

~

During the appointment we’ll discuss your pet’s needs and I’ll perform a physical examination.  At that point we can talk about things that you can do yourself as well as the diagnostic and treatment options I can provide for the both of you.

~

If hospital type services are necessary: such as, general anesthesia or x-rays I can arrange to personally provide these on my in-clinic days.

~

Euthanasia is a common procedure that people request in the home environment.  The euthanasia appointment involves a brief discussion and a physical examination.  For comfort I routinely sedate my patients: I then place an intravenous needle or catheter for administering the euthanasia solution (an overdose of general anesthetic).  After ensuring the procedure is done, I can arrange for cremation and the ashes will be returned if requested.

Payment is due at the time services are rendered.  Your payment options include: Visa, MasterCard, Debit, and Cash.  Unfortunately I cannot accept cheques nor can I arrange a payment plan.

~

If you have financial concerns be upfront about it so I can inform you of the best options within your budget; we all have limits and we’d all love to afford to do more for our pets.

My aim is to provide the best services you and your pet’s budget will allow.

Likewise, if your pet has health insurance: be sure to let me know.

As for me: I’m Dr. James Irwin, I’ve lived most of my life in Edmonton.  I graduated from the University of Alberta in 1994 with an honours degree in pharmacology.  I attended the Ontario Veterinary College graduating in 2000 with an honours DVM.  I practiced at Edmonton Veterinarian’s Emergency Clinic for several years before interning in a referral practice in California.  Both during and after my internship I’ve gained a great deal of experience from directly assisting and working with numerous specialist veterinarians one on one.   I am currently practicing small animal general medicine and surgery with a focus in ophthalmic surgery.
